Clay Crowther
5th Generation
Navajo Silversmith
W. Clay Crowther was born in Gallup New Mexico, January 1989. Raised just over the state line in small town Arizona. His parents are Blair Crowther and Lyanne Goodluck. At a young age Clay’s life mainly consisted of helping dad on the ranch with his siblings, going to school and playing with friends. Family was very important, and much time was spent visiting relatives. Many holiday gatherings landing at either one of his two grandparents’ houses. Full of aunts, uncles, cousins, laughs, smiles and food! Clay also remembers his mother and grandparents working hard making jewelry by hand. His grandparents’ workshop and buffing room was the stage for many young recollections. Like the time when he made and sold his first baby bracelet. However unsure of how much help he truly contributed to the creation. No matter what though this did seem like the natural choice for the future. Coming from a long line of silversmiths this path seemed obvious but many years we spent figuring out life instead. Learning, growing and testing numerous unfamiliar routes. This journey has taken over 30 years, but it has been a true blessing. Clay is a dad now raising two astounding boys in the very same small town he grew up in. To further the full circle as of March 2022 Clay started making jewelry full time and hasn’t looked back since. He looks forward to continuing his family’s silversmith traditions and honoring the knowledge handed down by his mom and many family members before her. Clay is a 5th generation silversmith.
